Jerry Jones confirms surgery for Dak Prescott for torn hamstring

The quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys, Dak Prescottis seeking another opinion while still hoping to avoid season-ending surgery on his torn hamstring said a person with knowledge of the situation on Saturday.

Prescott plans to see a specialist on Monday, according to the person who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because a decision on surgery has not yet been made.

Prescott was injured in the loss to Atlanta Falcons . If surgery is necessary, it will be the second long-term injury in five seasons for the 31-year-old.

Cooper Rush will start in place of Prescott on Sunday against its NFC East rival, Philadelphia (6-2).

Los Cowboys (3-5), current division champions, are on a three-game losing streak and the injury to Prescott puts their three-year playoff streak in jeopardy. It is already almost certain that he will miss at least a month.

Prescott was out of the last 11 parties due to a broken ankle in 2020, the most recent season in which Dallas did not reach the playoffs. He stayed in the game after injuring his hamstring last weekend, but did not play in the fourth quarter.

Hours before the start of the season, Prescott accepted a contract that made him the first player to earn an average of $60 million per year. That $240 million contract comes into effect next season.
