Temu, Users | Bank manager on recent Temu figures: – Crazy

(Fan mail): Sparebank 1 Sør-Norge has investigated how much Norway spends on Temu.

Temu is a Chinese owned online store that excels at selling items at very low prices, but you may not get exactly what you think you ordered. you

But Norwegians like to shop at Temu, at least some of us do.

– So far each Temu user has purchased for NOK 2,200. That is 18 times more than last year, says Mariann Bjorøy, bank manager of Sparebank 1 Sør-Norge in Fana.

Changing

The average for each transaction is less, NOK 393, and twice as many women than men shop there, according to the bank, which has analyzed the card usage of more than 70,000 customers.

– We see that there has been an unreasonable increase in trade from Temu in the last year. After the launch of the online store for Europe, we can see that activity in Norway has also exploded, says Bjorøy.

The bank is asking people to be careful.

– Temu sells cheap goods of different quality. We have been in contact with several customers who say that the products they receive are not as described, and who feel they have been cheated, she says.

Buying cheap can be expensive.

– Many people use the low prices as an argument when shopping at Temu. But it’s always wise to be aware of what you need. Many small purchases, and perhaps tax purchases, are not good for the wallet, the bank manager says.

Responding to the numbers a

The bank’s director of sustainability, Jørund Buen, will also deal with the figures.

– These online stores have several red flags, he says.

Not just because it’s going to be expensive.

– We have seen several reports that have confirmed that Temu products contain a lot of illegal chemicals. We also know that the products may have been produced under poor working conditions, he says.

Overspending is something he hopes everyone knows.

– Buying Temu will export our climate emissions to China. The Chinese seem to be producing more and more, but much of this is due to our own consumption. It’s easy to be tempted to order products you don’t need. Overspending is a big problem, and it is important that we all think carefully before buying something, to assess whether it is really necessary. Many of those goods also have a very short shelf life, he says.

Now he hopes the politicians will wake up.

– If we as consumers only buy from players like Temu, we support the postal service, but we don’t get local businesses. It is already a fact that a good part of the goods that Temu offers is impossible to buy from Norwegian suppliers. Do we really want it that way? he asks.

He says it’s not just consumers who should think twice.

– At the same time, it is unfair to blame us users for it has become this way. The authorities must take responsibility here too. People can pay less. It is not surprising that they buy cheap foreign goods when customs duties and taxes on imported goods are under NOK 3,000, he says.
