NHL – Other news & stats of the night

Buffalo – Montréal: 5-7
Philadelphia – San Jose: 4-3 SO
Pittsburgh – dallas: 1-7
Calgary – Los Angeles: 3-1
Colorado – Nashville: 3-2
Vegas – Carolina: 2-5

Mason Marchment (1-4-5) found the net four times in the first period and tied the franchise record for points in a period during the same 20-minute span that saw the Stars ( 9-5-0, 18 points) score six goals in a period for the seventh time in franchise history. Dallas’ eight outings with seven or more goals since 2023-24 are the most of any team and one more than the closest (TOR: 7).

  • Marchment had his second career five-point game (also 2-4-6 on January 31, 2022). Note that Jeremy Roenick (2x) and Pavel Datsyuk (1x), both of whom were inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame on Monday night, both had at least one performance of five or more points in the NHL.

Four points for Suzuki

In a match that included five decisive goals, the Canadians won thanks to their captain Nick Suzuki (2-2-4), who contributed to four of the team’s seven goals. This is the most goals Montreal has scored in a game since finding the back of the net nine times on April 9, 2024 (vs. PHI).

  • Suzuki, who reached and exceeded 300 career points (114-189-303 in 389 GP), scored twice in the space of 22 seconds. These are the two fastest goals scored by a Canadiens player in the last 30 years, behind the eight seconds of Cole Caufield on March 15, 2022.

Necas continue

Martin Necas (0-1-1) contributed one of Carolina’s five goals to extend his career-best point and assist streak to 10 games and Jordan Steel scored his 20th career shorthanded goal. The Hurricanes (11-3-0, 22 points) handed the Golden Knights (9-4-2, 20 points) their first defeat at T-Mobile Arena this season.

  • Necas, who became the fourth player in franchise history with a streak of 10 assists, played a vital role for a Hurricanes team that has scored at least four goals in nine straight games for the second time in the history of the franchise (also 11 GP from December 3 to 27, 1980). Only one team in the last 30 years has posted a longer streak (STL: 12 GP from March 28, 2022 to April 17, 2022).
  • David Poleone of seven members of the Hockey Hall of Fame’s 2024 class inducted Monday, is no stranger to seeing a player record a ten-assist streak. He was general manager of the Predators when Roman Josi recorded an assist in 10 consecutive games in 2021-22. McKinnon reaches 30 points

Nathan MacKinnon from Colorado (7-23-30 in 16 GP) became the first player to reach 30 points this season and joined Peter Stastny (14 GP in 1987/88), Michael Goulet (15 GP in 1987/88) and Joe Sakic (16 GP in 1992/93) as the fourth player in Avalanche and Nordiques history to reach that mark in a campaign of 16 games or fewer.
