Two security games in two days: Euro alarm in the Bundesliga! | Sports mix

In the halls of Easycredit Basketball Bundesliga is almost always peaceful. Riots or violence are the absolute exception. It’s different in European competitions, where away fans in particular repeatedly take advantage of the comparatively low police presence.

The last time there was a riot in Bonn was in January, when around 1,000 fans of Galatasaray Istanbul took out their frustration on the hall’s inventory after a Champions League defeat.

This week there is a double Euro alarm in the Bundesliga. Again on the Hardtberg in Bonn – and on the Elbe island of Wilhelmsburg.

Focal point 1): Veolia Towers Hamburg!

In the second highest European competition, the bottom team from Group B welcomes Aris Thessaloniki to the Inselpark on Tuesday (7.30 p.m., Magenta Sport). More than 500 fans of the traditional club are traveling from all over Europe. Because there is a fan friendship between the Ultras from Aris and Borussia Dortmund, a larger group from the Ruhr area has also announced their presence. For the towers this means increased security measures.

This means: separate entrances and strictly separated blocks, a ban on bags, and personal checks. The visiting fans were also reminded that pyrotechnics and balaclavas are prohibited in the hall.

“There will probably be an away atmosphere at home in our hall,” says Towers coach Benka Barloschky (36). “This is a special circumstance that we pointed out to our team.”

The Towers are burned children: two years ago, supporters of Hapoel Tel Aviv burned down a dangerous pyrotechnic show in the former flower hall. Barloschky: “There is an incredible basketball culture in these countries. The importance is even higher. These teams have their supporters all over the world and with these teams they are club supporters and not necessarily just basketball fans. They will ensure that it will be a very special atmosphere.”

Good for the Towers: With the return of captain Benedit Turudic (27/neck) and creative head Jaizec Lottie (26/adductors), the Towers have the entire squad available for the first time in the season!

Focal point 2): Telekom Baskets Bonn

For other reasons, the people of Bonn are also increasing their security precautions on Wednesday. Because the Israeli team Maccabi Ramat-Gan is a guest in the Champions League (8 p.m., Dyn). A year ago, the game against Hapoel Holon was played without spectators – this time fans are allowed.

But the police are on alert, especially after the anti-Semitic riots last week in Amsterdam with at least five injured and 62 arrests surrounding the soccer game between Ajax and Maccabi Tel Aviv.
