Presentation

The Simple Departmental Structure (SSD) Hygiene of Livestock and Livestock Production (IAPZ) relating to the Prevention Department, operates with a holistic approach One Health involving the public, veterinary and environmental health sectors. This health model, based on the integration of different disciplines, is based on the assumption that human health, animal health and ecosystem health are inextricably linked and is the only way to achieve the goal of global health. In this logic, the structure interacts and collaborates with the others:

  • Departmental structures (in particular Animal Health, Hygiene of Food of Animal Origin and Hygiene of Food and Nutrition);
  • Institutions and Bodies (Hospitals, ARPAL, Public Health Laboratories, IZS, Municipalities, public and private associations);
  • Competent Authorities with the organization of joint scheduled and emergency checks (Police, Carabinieri NAS and Forestry, ICQ, UVAC).

Activity

The SSD-IAPZ carries out its activity in the field of protection of the well-being of livestock and experimental animals, of the hygiene of livestock production (primary production), of animal nutrition from production to distribution of feed, of the use and management of veterinary medicine, the management of animal by-products (AS), animal reproduction and food safety, in particular in the primary activities of production of milk and dairy products, honey and apiary products, eggs.

The Structure provides health care services guaranteed by the NHS largely included in the LEAs (Essential Levels of Assistance) such as:

  • control and supervision of the distribution and use of the drug for veterinary use and prevention of drug resistance;
  • programs for the search for residues of illicit or improper treatments: National Residue Plan (PNR);
  • control and supervision of animal nutrition and the production and distribution of feed;
  • execution of the National Animal Nutrition Plan (PNAA);
  • control and supervision of animal reproduction;
  • supervision and control of the entire cow’s, sheep’s and goat’s milk production chain and the associated dairies registered pursuant to EC Reg. 852/2004;
  • supervision of the welfare of farm animals, on farms and during transport (including issuing authorizations for animal transport pursuant to Regulation (EC) 1/2005, authenticating transport registrations on one’s own account, issuing certificates of suitability for drivers and guardians);
  • supervision and control over the use of animals in testing;
  • controls relating to “cross-compliance” (animal welfare and food safety);
  • control and supervision of the use of animal by-products (SOA);
  • supervision of zootechnical hygiene and hygienic problems caused by farm animals;
  • investigations in case of feed alerts.
