Again, a trend for a high percentage of births by underage mothers is reported by doctors in state hospitals in our country. One of the examples is in the Burgas University General Hospital, where only last year the number reached 149 cases.
Among them is the case of an 11-year-old mother.
In the hospital in question, 5 girls under the age of 14 and 30 under the age of 15 gave birth this year, said Dr. Antonio Dushepeev, head of the UMBAL-Burgas maternity ward.
“We encounter such cases several times a year. The statistics show that we have an increase in the births of minors and minor citizens of the Republic. In principle, they are from minority groups, distant from the medical aid units in the country. Premature babies are born,” he said.
“We are notifying the hospital management, the hospital management is notifying the institutions. Forced measures will not solve the rate of births among minors. It is solved with complex institutional measures, unification of institutions, sexual education, social education, family planning, easy access to contraceptives and so on,” he added.
