Ounahi asked to leave the field in the final minutes of play after feeling sudden pain. While waiting to know the seriousness of the injury suffered by the Moroccan international, his presence at the next Atlas Lions gathering which should start this Monday, is already compromised.
The Moroccan midfielder is one of the players called up by Walid Regragui for the matches against Gabon and Lesotho, counting for the fifth and sixth days of the qualifiers for the African Cup of Nations (CAN) Morocco 2025. Obviously, the injury d’Ounahi will upset the plans of the Moroccan technician who will have to find the ideal profile to replace the Panathinaikos player, considered a centerpiece of the Atlas Lions squad.

In addition to Ounahi, the Morocco team will have to play its next two matches without Ilias Akhomach. The Moroccan striker from Villarreal suffered a complete rupture of his anterior cruciate ligament, an injury which will keep him away from the field for a long time. However, the absence of these two key players provides an opportunity for other players to prove that they deserve their place in the team.
Morocco faces Gabon on Friday, November 15 at the Franceville stadium, as part of the fifth day of the CAN 2025 qualifiers. Regragui’s men will then face Lesotho at home on November 18 in Oujda.
