One of the most anticipated titles for Garry’s Mod fans, Sandbox, it will be available on Steam with a feature that fans have been asking for for a long time. The game, which is currently in testing, is getting closer to release as Facepunch Studios has opened a Sandbox page on the Valve platform and confirmed that the popular “sandbox mode” has been to add popularity.
Developed by Facepunch Studios, creators of Garry’s Mod and Rust, Sandbox is a game creation platform. Here, users can get a set of tools to develop any game, from shooters and platformers to racing and roguelikes, which can then be distributed for free through the UGC hub. Like Garry’s Mod, Sandbox gives you complete creative freedom, but greatly expands the possibilities using the new Source 2 engine and the C# programming language.
While in Garry’s Mod the main Source engine was focused on Valve games like Portal and Half-Life, in Sandbox the emphasis is on the ability of developers to sell their games in the future, not targeting the content of other Valve games. Facepunch even partners with Valve to simplify licensing and guarantee no licensing fees or royalties for players.
The release of the full version is still delayed, but an update on November 11 revealed details of the release and confirmed that the classic “Sandbox Mode” will be included in the game. In Garry’s Mod, this mode allowed you to create items and change the rules of the game to explore the world with friends and do experiments. This concept will now be integrated into Sandbox, providing a similar experience to the original sandbox.
Additionally, Facepunch clarified Sandbox monetization policies. In the future, developers will be able to make money from their games, but the studio is keen to avoid aggressive monetization. Facepunch intends to create a fair environment for players and content creators, avoiding push-pull situations and pay-to-win mechanics.
