Stephen Curry and the Warriors offer themselves a precious victory in OKC, while Philadelphia finally stops its black streak. Already deprived of Chet Holmgren, the Thunder could not resist the fury of the reigning champions…
Sunday evening on the NBA courts, all eyes were on the poster between the Golden State Warriors and the Oklahoma City Thunder. A shock at the top of the Western Conference which kept all its promises. In a melting Paycom Center, the Warriors managed to win 127 to 116, thanks in particular to an immense Stephen Curry.
MVP Curry carries the Warriors
Author of 36 points including 7 3-point baskets, Stephen Curry was the great architect of his team’s victory. Thanks to this success, Golden State returns to the level of its evening opponent in the standings, with a record of 8 victories for 2 defeats. Both teams remain in contact with the leader, the Phoenix Suns.
But the evening was marked by the injury exit of the Thunder nugget, Chet Holmgren. Hit in a hip in the first quarter, the rookie should be absent from the courts for a period of 2 to 3 months according to a source close to the franchise. A real blow for OKC.
Philadelphia stops the bleeding
In the other matches of the night, the Philadelphia 76ers ended their series of 5 consecutive defeats by winning after overtime against the Charlotte Hornets (107-105). A victory acquired thanks to the performances of Guerschon Yabusele (20 pts) and rookie Jared McCain (27 pts).
3-point festival for the Pacers
On the Indianapolis side, the Pacers made short work of the Knicks (132-121) thanks to a real 3-point festival. The Indiana franchise returned 21 long-distance shots out of 46 attempted, with Bennedict Mathurin as conductor (7/9 for 38 points, his career record).
The Jokic and James style triple-double
Two players also shone by achieving a triple-double on Sunday evening. LeBron James first of all, during the Lakers’ victory against Toronto (19 pts, 10 rebounds, 16 feet). Then Nikola Jokic, who carried Denver against Dallas (37 pts, 18 rebounds, 15 pds) for a 5th success in a row for the Nuggets.
Also note the big victories for Memphis, although deprived of Ja Morant, against Portland (134-89) and Orlando against Washington thanks to the Wagner brothers (121-94). Miami scared itself but ended up winning against Minnesota (95-94) on a Nikola Jovic shot.
