However, it is often difficult for adults to keep track of all these platforms. Many parents are overwhelmed when it comes to the age from which their child can use social networks, what risks are associated with their use or what setting options are available. This is where our “What is…?” series comes in: In the individual guides we explain how the respective platform is used and give tips on how to use it safely.

Our guides are available for Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, YouTube, WhatsApp and Roblox as well as the parental control app Google Family Link. Each guide goes into detail about how the respective network works, why it is so popular with children and young people, from what age it can be used and what risks there are. We will also give you specific tips on how you can help your child or students use it safely and show you what the most important settings are.
