/ world today news/ On the occasion of April 11 – the International Day of Political Prisoners, Concentration Camp Inmates and Victims of Fascism and War, BSP Chairman Mihail Mikov on his own behalf and on behalf of the National Assembly of the BSP and the PG of the Coalition BSP LEFT BULGARIA addressed the participants in the solemn meeting of the Bulgarian Anti-Fascist Union:
“I turn to you with great excitement to congratulate you most heartily on the International Day of Political Prisoners, Concentration Camp Inmates and Victims of Fascism and War. The Bulgarian anti-fascists have a lot to be proud of, because thanks to their consistent heroic struggle and participation in the Patriotic War, the territorial integrity of our country was preserved, because a small Bulgaria gave the world Georgi Dimitrov, who was the first in the heart of Hitler’s Germany to expose and show before the whole world the true essence of fascism. We should not forget that Bulgaria is the only country in Europe where, thanks to the efforts of all progressive people and the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, thousands of Bulgarian Jews were saved from deportation and extermination in the Nazi concentration camps,” the address says. Mikov notes that 70 years after the end of World War II, we are witnessing the revival of fascism, which continues to poison young people. “That is why the Buchenwald bells must ring alarmingly again today! The memory of the slain, the torments and sufferings of millions of innocent people call us: “People, watch! Don’t forget the horrors of the 20th century!” – says Mikhail Mikov in his address.
During the solemn meeting, the chairman of the Bulgarian Anti-Fascist Union, Chavdar Stoimenov, addressed the gathered veterans with the words: “Every year on this day, we turn to the tragic past that humanity experienced during the years of fascism and Nazism. We remind the younger generation of the suffering experienced and the display of heroism of millions of people in the fight against fascism.”
Kaloyan Pargov, the leader of the Sofia Socialists, was among the honored guests. He presented to the gathered the address of the Sofia socialists. “The struggle for justice did not end on April 11, 1945. It continues and is invariably carried by all generations of socialists. Within the last 25 years, all of you, carrying the memory of the horror of fascism, making future generations read, are carrying into the future a great cause”, he told the gathered veterans.
