The Department of Environment, Infrastructure and Territory has reinforced the animal care and rescue protocols of the municipalities affected by the floods with five emergency programs to facilitate rescues, free veterinary assistancefood, reconstruction and aid and donations.
Environmental agents from the Generalitat participate in this operation, activated last week, to guarantee the well-being of the rescued animals, which already number 200.
One of his first actions was to open avenues of access to the shelters, the day after DANAto evaluate the status of the affected centers in municipalities such as Carlet and coordinate the transfer of animals to temporary points.
Likewise, a permanent device has been established to carry out searches with teams of volunteers and locate both animals that require attention and others that have lost their lives.
Regarding assistance, The Generalitat has reached an agreement with the CEU UCH Veterinary Clinical Hospital to care for all injured animals that are found, in addition to activating a protocol for the detection of different diseases and preventing their spread. Thanks to the collaboration of CEU UCH and the Sporting de Benimaclet football club, all animals in need are cared for free of charge in the university facilities.
Furthermore, in collaboration with the Illustrious Official College of Veterinarians of Valenciaprimary care and food distribution points have been established in affected municipalities, such as Picanya or Paiporta, coordinated with the town councils.
Aid and donations
Another program launched by the Generalitat is the collection, storage and distribution of donations of feed, beds and accessories, in collaboration with the BIOPARC Foundation. The material and food that arrives from all over Spain and several European countries is centralized before being sent to animal shelters and affected individuals.
The Department of the Environment, through the public company Vaersa, will also be in charge of bringing the feed to those places where it is not possible to access the authorized points. To coordinate this work, the telephone number 616487721 has been activated.
On the other hand, A service reconstruction plan has been drawn up in collaboration with the Association of Veterinary Entrepreneurs of Valenciaenabling a device to cover the needs of the affected animal shelters, in coordination with the Professional Association of Pet Zoos.
In relation to donations, an agreement has been established with the BIOPARC Foundationwhich has opened an exclusive fundraising section to channel aid through its website. The funds raised will be transferred and subsequently allocated by the Ministry of the Environment, which will also enable its own help line for all animal collection centers affected by DANA, also through its website.
