Ride & Bike im WestfalenTarif

Whether in larger cities or rural residential areas – in the WestfalenTarif regions there is now a wide range of options for safely parking your bike. In lockable boxes run by private or non-profit companies such as radbox.nrw, a parking space can be reserved online for a small fee.

Drive directly to the train station, open the gate with a code, park the bike in the reserved parking box, close it, get on the train, book your digital eezy.nrw ticket using a public transport app – that’s all you need. Depending on your needs, you can book a space for a day, a week, a month or even a year – an offer that is worthwhile for both occasional users and commuters who regularly cycle. Since 1997, the General German Bicycle Club NRW (ADFC NRW) has been developing secure stations throughout the state that protect bicycles from theft, vandalism and weather influences.

The non-profit station in Rheine offers safe storage for 960 bicycles. The Caritas Emstor workshops provide rental bicycles and breakdown assistance. In Hamm (450 spaces) and in Minden (442 spaces), many public transport passengers also park their bikes to protect them from theft and vandalism. Additional services such as breakdown assistance, (e-bike) rental and maintenance services are also helpful here.

In Hamm, bicycle cages at the Bockum-Hövel, Hamm-Heessen and Hamm-Mitte train stations are equipped with an electronic radio transmitter. At the citizens’ offices and bike stations, users receive a transponder with which the utilization of the parking facility is monitored through programming. If the holder of the space does not extend the useful life of the transponder, a space will become available in the system. Double assignments are prevented by storing data on the chip.

If you don’t want to leave your bike behind, you can take it with you on buses and trains for 12 months with the FahrradTagesTicket24, which is valid all day, the 30-day bicycle ticket or the bicycle subscription for 12 months. Folding bikes and e-scooters are transported free of charge when folded. In the Siegen-Wittgenstein and Olpe districts, the regional trains transport e-bikes and other bicycles free of charge. Public transport users without their own bike can take advantage of numerous bike sharing offers from the stop, such as meinSiggi in Bielefeld. The meinSiggi stations can be easily found using the app, on the website of the municipal utility subsidiary moBiel or the provider nextbike GmbH.

The most bicycle-friendly cities and communities will be honored in six size classes on April 29, 2025 at the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) in Berlin. The BMDV is funding the ADFC bicycle climate test 2024 with funds for the implementation of the National Cycling Plan.
