The Swedish Ministry of Defense has selected the Embraer C-390 Millennium aircraft to upgrade its tactical transport fleet, reports Aerospace Central Europe. This decision is a sign of Sweden’s commitment to developing its defense capabilities and strengthening interoperability within NATO. The selection puts Sweden together with other NATO countries that have chosen the C-390, recognizing its flexibility and advanced features.

Bosco Da Costa Junior, CEO of Embraer Defense & Security, welcomed Sweden’s decision and emphasized the aircraft’s ability to meet complex mission requirements. He stressed Embraers commitment to support Sweden’s modernization efforts with a platform designed to meet current and future challenges and offering unmatched reliability and performance.

Sweden is not the only one choosing the C-390

The C-390 joins other European NATO allies such as Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, the Netherlands and Portugal who have already adopted the aircraft for their tactical transport needs. This move reflects a growing emphasis among European countries on seamless interaction within NATO, effective training practices and joint support infrastructure. Millennium’s flexibility and shared resources contribute to this coordination.

Since its introduction into the Brazilian Air Force in 2019, the C-390 has logged more than 15,000 flight hours with an incredible mission readiness of 93 percent and mission completion of more than 99 percent. Its proven performance in various operating conditions confirms its reputation for reliability and cost-effectiveness. Sweden’s purchase of the C-390 strengthens defense ties with Brazil and builds on their longstanding partnership. This collaboration marks a new chapter in Brazil-Sweden relations, focusing on their shared commitment to defense innovation and NATO-related readiness.
