Bolzano – Cybersecurity is important for everyone: This message was given at the opening of the Cybersecurity Week in the courtyard of Landhaus 1. Day 1 of the event was aimed at public administrations, postal police and private companies.
From 2020 to 2023, the number of cyber attacks increased by 30 percent. Each organization is exposed to an average of 1,636 digital attacks per week. These figures were presented at the start of the week dedicated to the management of IT security incidents. The security event was organized by Südtiroler Informatik AG in collaboration with the National Agency for Cybersecurity (ACN), the state of South Tyrol and the postal police.
Ulli Mair, the state councilor responsible for security, emphasized that cyber attacks begin with threats and insults online. “They also include phishing, network penetration, malware and blackmail,” emphasizes Mair. Cybersecurity is becoming increasingly important as public life is increasingly dependent on the functioning of the digital infrastructure. “Events like this help raise awareness and encourage greater cybersecurity resilience to detect attacks early and take countermeasures.”
General Director Alexander Steiner wished the participants of the Cybersecurity Week, which will take place from Tuesday in the NOI Techpark, good luck and delivered the greetings from State Governor Arno Kompatscher.
Josef Hofer, the director of the IT department, explained how much security on the Internet influences everyday life. The increase in cyber attacks by 30 percent in three years is considerable. “It shows that protecting our data is of great importance,” emphasizes Hofer. Most cyber attacks occur in the areas of education/research, military and health.
Roberto Caramia, head of the CSIRT Italy department of the national agency for cybersecurity (ACN), explained how IT security threats are dealt with in Italy. “We have to increase digital resilience,” he called the first goal, and it is also essential to anticipate digital attacks. “In order to be prepared for an emergency, precise planning is important.”
Aldo di Somma, deputy head of the CSIRT department, illustrated how to deal with a specific attack. The week continues in the NOI Techpark with concrete exercises and simulations.
