Russia denies that Putin and Trump spoke –

The Kremlin today denied reports that US President-elect Donald Trump had spoken by phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin in recent days and said Putin still had no concrete plans to talk to Trump.

The Washington Post first reported, citing unnamed sources, that the call took place and that Trump told Putin he should not escalate the war in Ukraine.

Reuters also reported that the call had taken place, citing an unnamed source.

“There was no conversation”

“This is completely untrue. It’s a pure figment of the imagination,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters. “There was no conversation.”

“This is the clearest example of the quality of information being published now, sometimes even in quite reputable publications,” Peskov said.

Asked whether Putin plans any contacts with Trump, Peskov said: “There are no concrete plans yet.”

The Kremlin spokesman also accused European leaders of still seeking the “strategic defeat” of Russia.

Dmitry Peskov was responding to a question about the possibility of Britain allowing Ukraine to use its Storm Shadow long-range missile systems to strike targets inside Russia — something he said could not be ruled out.
