A collaborative study between Thai researchers from Walailak University Mahidol University and researchers from the University of Toronto using data on monthly alcohol sales. This research has the strength of using data from 1995 to 2017, which spans the period before the campaign to stop drinking during the Buddhist Lent (starting in 2003) because drinking behavior of Thai people tends to be high in May to October every year. This is the month that overlaps with the time of the Buddhist Lent. (usually from July to October) So the decline in drinking during Buddhist Lent can be seen as a seasonal change in the amount of drinking.
