On Tuesday night an exceptional convoy coming from the commercial port of Salerno will have to cross the city and therefore the collaboration of all citizens is necessary. This involves the transport of the special components of the first of the 4 TBMs (Tunnel Boring Machine), drills intended for the excavation of the tunnels planned on the route of lot 1A Battipaglia-Romagnano of the high-speed railway Salerno-Reggio Calabria, whose works were entrusted to the Xenia consortium on behalf of RFI (FS Italiane Group).
About 130 meters long, weighing approximately 4,000 tons and with a milling head with a diameter of 13.46 metres, thanks to this drill it will be possible to excavate the 3 kilometers of the Saginara tunnel, between the Municipalities of Campagna e Outline Termsworking 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Starting from 4 pm and until the passage of the convoy which will take place by 6 am the following morning, in:

- TAFURI seafront

- COLOMBO seafront
- Via LEUCOSIA (mountain side roadway)

a ban on parking and stopping with forced removal is established for all vehicles on both sides of the aforementioned carriageways.
From 10 pm on 12 November 2024, the transit of the exceptional convoy on the aforementioned itinerary will begin, providing for a dynamic and temporary closure of the roads covered by the itinerary and those that enter the route based on the progress of the vehicle.
To allow preparatory operations for the passage of the convoy, from 10 pm on 12 November 2024 until the early hours of the following morning, a transit ban will be established for all vehicles in transit. Via Giovanni Santoro and on the stretch of Seafront between Via Clemente Mauro and Via Scillato.
The overall layout of Lot 1A includes the executive design and construction of 35 kilometers of new railway line between the cities of Battipaglia and Romagnano, on which trains will travel at up to 300 kilometers per hour. The project includes the construction of 20 tunnels (of which 8 to be excavated with the use of four TBMs), 19 viaducts and in Romagnano the construction of a crossroads is planned for the interconnection of the new line with the existing line from Battipaglia it goes towards Metaponto and Potenza.
