Marylin Cotethe woman who claimed to be a psychiatrist and who had a doctorate in neuroscience from the Harvard Universityis currently under investigation by the Federal Commission for the Protection against Health Risks (Cofepris).

The review was initiated after it was discovered that Cote does not have the necessary permits or certifications to practice psychiatry or prescribe controlled medications in Mexico and the United States.

Marilyn’s case quickly went viral on social media, where the veracity of her academic and professional credentials was questioned. On her website, Cote described herself as a graduate of the Harvard University, of the Center for Mental Disorders at the University of Oslomentioned having taken courses at the FBIown shares in the recognized medical entity ‘Fifty Doctors‘ and claimed to have received several international awards in psychodiagnosis.

The controversy gained strength when social media users began to share evidence suggesting that Cote had constructed a partially false identity. Among the evidence presented are manipulated photographs, in which Cote appears alongside public figures and models from image banks that he passed off as his fellow doctors.

Until now Doctoralia y Fifty Doctorsthey distanced themselves from the supposed psychiatrist, even Laura Pausini denied her, since Cote had a photograph with Laura Pausini and assured that they were friends.

The case of Marilyn Cote caused outrage, because after being exposed on the Internet, former patients raised their voices and revealed their experience with the woman who pretended to be a psychiatrist. They also made known the diagnoses he had given them and the medications with which he treated them. This case was taken up by the internal medicine specialist, Octavio Arroyowho conducted an investigation about the alleged psychiatrist, supporting the information with interviews and experts on the subject.

“How can you say that you have so many titles? Yes, we already saw that it has nothing of that. For example, to be a neuropsychiatrist you must be a doctor, seven years. From there psychiatry, four years. And then the subspecialty in neuro is one or two more years. The master’s degree he holds is in criminology, not jurisprudence. And what doctorate in medicine?”

Another reason why the woman attracted attention, in addition to usurping the profession, was the editing of photographs and images with which she built a reality that she shared through her Instagram and Facebook accounts. “We see images with terrible Photoshop, where their face is modified, their features, their skin color change, imperfections are removed. Even makes photomontages being a karate fighter, being in famous universities and hospitals. Inventing couples and books that she herself has published,” said Mr. Doctor.

On the other hand, Cote maintained on his website and a biography created on Wikipedia that he is of European origin, specifically from Rome, Italy. According to the information shared by Arroyo, the lawyer was actually born in Tlaxcala, “From very reliable sources that we found on the internet that she is from Tlaxcala”, he noted.

In interviews with former patients of the woman the doctor introduced, some of them revealed that Cote had even given them a vaccine to supposedly cure depression.

One aspect that caught a lot of attention is that Marilyn Cote promises her patients to cure depression and anxiety in a week (Screenshot/neuropsychologyclinicus.com)

“I’m going to go to Houston because I’m going to bring vaccines that will cure depressionbut you are going to need 12 and the cost is 38 thousand pesos in cash. But right now you have to give me 12,900 to start. And I told him, with that I’m going to end up curing myself and he said yes. They were such aggressive vaccines (…) they locked me in a little room so that the effect of the vaccine would wear off (…) When I told him that, it felt like I was taking drugs, I felt in orbit, doctor. And he told me that it was normal that it was a process,” commented an anonymous patient.

“It is incredible that I did not realize how much damage Dr. Marilyn did to me because it was also her attitudes at a certain moment because sometimes I left her office very scared.”

“I have been locating this lady for several months but I didn’t want to say anything because I didn’t think the matter was that serious, but today we realize all the impact it had and that it is national news, but she is just one of the thousands of charlatans,” said Arroyo.

Finally, Mr. Doctor made it clear that they will open an investigation folder and impose a collective complaint contra Marilyn Cote.
