Mexico City. Eight heads of state who have confirmed their presence in the work of the G20 have requested a bilateral meeting with the president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, Foreign Minister Juan Ramón de la Fuente reported this Friday.
These are Canada, China, Korea, France, India, Indonesia, Japan and the United Kingdom, so the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) analyzes which of the requests to respond to so that the president can dialogue with her peers within the framework of the activities of this group, which will take place on November 18 and 19 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
When asked in the morning about whether there will be a bilateral meeting with the president of the United States, Joe Biden, the chancellor clarified that so far the American president has not confirmed his presence at the summit.
“The United States has not yet confirmed (the presence) of President Biden, it is anticipated that he will go. Spain is invited. The bilateral ones that are contemplated are the ones that I gave them,” De la Fuente pointed out.
In addition to this, the official highlighted that Mexico joined the proposal that the host country, Brazil, presented to create a global alliance to combat poverty worldwide.
The chancellor indicated that the head of the Mexican Executive will only attend the work of the first day, and will participate in two plenary sessions: the opening one in the morning, where hunger and poverty on a global scale and the fight against these will be discussed. problematic; and the second in the afternoon in which the necessary reforms for global governance institutions will be discussed.
Sheinbaum Pardo will return to Mexico on November 19, to lead activities to commemorate the beginning of the Revolution of the 20th of this month.
De la Fuente explained that work continues on the G20 declaration. “I bring the latest version still bracketed, we are trying to ensure that the points that are most interesting to Mexico are represented and there are not going to be elements that could affect Mexico’s interests. It is a very careful negotiation job, which takes time. It is important, because they are positions,” he explained.
He noted that the heads of state who will participate in the G20 will debate the international political and economic situation, and social inclusion. “This year there will be a lot of emphasis on the fight against hunger and poverty, the energy transition, the reforms that global governance institutions require, and more sensitive points than there always are.”
The Indian Foreign Minister said that the issues that Mexico is interested in are that aspects of gender equality, sustainable development, some elements of culture be touched upon, and that the digital agenda be promoted, in the field of artificial intelligence.
