MLB News: Marlins Pick New Manager

The Miami Marlins have chosen a new manager.

Los Angeles Dodgers first base coach Clayton McCullough will have his first managerial job at the Major League level with the Marlins in 2025, according to ESPN‘s Alden González.

McCullough was chosen from a list of reported candidates that included the Detroit Tigers bench coach. Jorge LombardoCleveland Guardians bench coach Craig Albernaz, Texas Rangers associate manager Will Venable, San Francisco Giants manager Alyssa’s neck, and former Marlins bench coach Luis Urueta.

Venable was hired to manage the Chicago White Sox last week, while Urueta he joined coach Bruce Bochy’s staff sui Texas Rangers.

The new manager will have a clean slate. The Marlins fired Schumaker’s entire coaching staff after the 2024 season, in which they lost 100 games.

Miami ranked second-to-last in MLB in earned run average (4.73) and second-to-last in runs per game (3.93) in 2024. To have a chance to be competitive next season, the team will have to maximize its limited budget.
