【Health and Welfare News】 The Korean Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Implantology (Chairman Hwang Jae-hong, hereinafter referred to as KAOMI) held its first official meeting by participating in the GCCG project organizing committee of the European Association for Osseointegration (EAO) held in Milan, Italy on the 26th of last month. GCCG (Global Consensus for Clinical Guidelines) is a global project in which renowned implant academic organizations from various countries work together to establish guidelines for implant treatment that can be used globally.
This project is led by the European Implant Society, the International Team for Implantology (ITI), and the Osteology Foundation, and leading implant academic organizations including KAOMI form the ‘Osseo Alliance’. formed. In addition, JSOI (Japanese Society of Implantology), CSA (Chinese Dental Association), OSI (Implant Society of India), and SOBRAPI (Brazil Society of Periodontal Implantology) are also participating.
At the first official meeting, KAOMI Vice Chairman Kim Seon-jae attended as a representative and discussed with various organization heads and representatives.
GCCG’s first conference is scheduled to be held in Boston, USA around June next year, with the main theme of edentulous maxilla: ▲implant diagnosis and treatment plan ▲shortened VS. It covers four specific areas: standard implants, maxillary sinus lift surgery and alveolar bone regeneration, and fixed and non-fixed (removable) implant prosthetics.
Guidelines for implant treatment evaluate PROMs (Patient Reported Outcome Measures) and CROMs (Clinician Reported Outcome Measures) through a systematic review and Delphi survey ( A conclusion is drawn and proposed by integrating various common opinions in the field of health and medicine (research methods to reach consensus). By implementing PROMs, meaningful results can be obtained through precise analysis that is different from existing research methods.
The industry expects that this large-scale project will be able to generalize existing guidelines that have had regional limitations and deviations.
KAOMI Vice Chairman Kim Seon-jae, who attended the GCCG official meeting, said, “Until now, Korea has only been an indirect participant in large-scale overseas implant conferences and symposiums. Therefore, it was true that there were doubts about whether it was an appropriate implant protocol when applied to the domestic implant situation, but we expect that through this opportunity, we will be able to actively reflect the situation in Korea and come up with an evidence-based joint agreement in the implant field.” He said.
KAOMI Chairman Hwang Jae-hong said, “We advocated globalization in both the domestic implant industry and academic aspects, but in particular, in the latter, there was almost no true globalization and exchange, so it was always disappointing,” and “Academic groups from various countries are involved in the mega-implant project. “We promise that KAOMI will contribute with significant status as a bridge between the two countries, and we will definitely confirm KAOMI’s international potential,” he expressed his ambition.
Established in 1994, KAOMI is Korea’s leading dental implant academic organization and has strived to contribute to the improvement of public health by carrying out projects such as education, research, industry-academia cooperation, and public relations in dental implantology. Recently, an implant symposium was successfully held jointly with the Korean Association of Medical Biojournalists (KAMJ), contributing to surveying and improving public awareness of implants. Under the slogan ‘Global Leading Implant Academy’, we plan to participate in a large-scale implant project called GCCG to enhance national prestige.
