“He’s a pederast.” It is the homophobic attack on the former head of cabinet of the Minister of Culture Giuli, Francesco Spanowritten by the coordinator of the Brothers of Italy of the IX municipality of Rome, Fabrizio Busnengo in the “FdI Roma” chat, around 200 members including party leaders (Arianna Meloni in the first place), municipal and municipal managers and councilors.
As reported the Daily Factlast Saturday – before Spano’s resignation from the role of head of cabinet – Busnengo writes: “Good morning, I want to point out the great discontent in our party due to the nomination of the pederast Spano by Minister Giuli”. And again: “Spano has ignoble positions on LGBTQ+ issues”.
After a harsh reprimand from the coordinator in the FdI capital, Marco Perissaclose to Arianna Meloni – “On a chat with the symbol of the first party in Italy, either you have the ability to behave or you stay out” – Busnengo is removed from the chat. A few hours later Busnengo himself resigns.
An affair which is a symptom of the discontent and concern that is spreading among the FdI base towards Giuli’s choice. In fact, Spano had in the past ended up in the sights of the right and of itself Giorgia Meloni for alleged funding granted as head of Unar (Government Office for Racial Discrimination) to an LGBT+ association dedicated to commercial sex.
Busnengo: “I’m not homophobic”
“I didn’t want to attack Spano on a personal level, I limited myself to reporting the mood of our base…”. He says it toAdnkronos Busnengo, interviewed by phone. The former coordinator justifies himself as follows: “First of all, I am astonished that internal party chats are disseminated like this and sent to the press. Having said that, as I reiterated to Perissa himself and to all the others, far be it from me to attack Spano from a homophobic point of view, I simply reported the sentiment of the electoral base with respect to the nomination of Spano. I therefore reject the accusations of homophobia.”
After the outburst in the chat, Busnengo left the position of coordinator of the IX Municipality: a decision which, however, he assures, would have been evaluated for some time. “As regards my resignation, I had already decided impetuously for personal and work reasons to resign as FdI coordinator of Municipality IX, which does not mean leaving the party”
