Lumezzane. On the sixth day of group 1 of Serie A2 2024, the Tennis Club Lumezzane did not go beyond yet another 2-2. Once again the Brescia team was put back together after taking a 2-0 lead, but now, having to observe the rest period on Sunday 17 November, the team led by Alberto Paris can only hope for a chain of favorable results on the final day of “regular season” to obtain direct salvation.
On the fields of the Sport Club Nuova Casale, it was Anastasia Piangerelli who brought the first point to the Brescia team. The Abruzzo native confirmed his form by winning his fifth singles out of five played this season. Rebecca Casoli paid the price for the Piedmontese team, beaten 6-2 6-2 in exactly one hour of play.
The second singles, between Ylena In-Albon and Katerina Tsygourova, was much more competitive. The winner after 2 hours and 31 minutes in a match full of reversals was the Swiss team from Tc Lumezzane, capable in the first set of responding blow for blow to her opponent and closing the tie-break 7-3. The WTA number 337 (but with a best ranking of no. 110) then reaffirmed its supremacy in the second set, lost with a score of 6-2.
Nothing to do, however, for Sued El Badaoui who first gave way to Ksenia Sokolova despite a very hard-fought first set (6-4 6-2) and then paired with Chiara Catini she was unable to resist the Casalese duo formed by Tsygourova and Casoli (6-3 6-2). Unfortunately for Lumezzane, no good results came from the other playing fields during the day. In fact, Rome’s Eur coach defeated Arezzo’s coach Giotto 3-1; same score as the Bologna coach on Tc Genova 1893.
The Valgobbia club must thus hope for a 4-0 defeat for at least one of the two teams tied in the standings with the Brescia team, that is Ct Giotto who will challenge Casale at home on Sunday 17 November and Tc Genova who will play away in Rome. “Our chances of direct salvation are now few – commented captain Paris -. We knew at the start of the championship that it would be tough, but some results really put us at a disadvantage. I can’t say anything but positive things about the girls, even today they took to the pitch giving their all. Now all we can do is watch next week’s matches as spectators and hope.”
