Boom in spending by foreign tourists in Salerno

Not only the big cities stood out this summer: in the ranking of the Italian provinces for spending on physical POS by foreign tourists we also find less predictable realities, such as SalernoBolzano, Sassari and Brescia. This is what emerged at the International Tourism Forum at the Fortezza da Basso in Florence. During the panel dedicated to “Growth”, Professor Carlo Brugnoli, scientific director of the National Tourism Observatory (Ont), anticipated some of the data from the first Nexi Tourism & Incoming Watch report, which will be published at the beginning of 2025 thanks to the collaboration between Nexi and the Ministry of Tourism, with the support of the Hon.

The report shows how, in addition to the main centers – such as Rome, Venice, Naples, Milan, Florence and Verona – the province of Salerno contributed significantly to foreign tourism spending during the summer of 2024, with smaller provinces such as Salerno, together in Bolzano, Sassari and Brescia, which together represent 13% of the total expenditure of international visitors to Italy.
