Madrid. Giuliano Simeone made his debut as a scorer by leading Atlético de Madrid’s 2-0 victory over Las Palmas in the Spanish League on Sunday.
Giuliano, son of coach Diego Simeone, opened the scoring in the 37th minute, after receiving a long pass from his Argentine compatriot Nahuel Molina and beating goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen inside the area.
Alexander Sorloth gave peace of mind to the victory with his fourth goal of the championship in the 83rd minute.
The victory provisionally leaves the colchoneros in third position with 23 points, seven behind Barcelona. Las Palmas is in the relegation zone, in 18th place with nine.
Argentine forward Julián Álvarez started the game as a starter. He was replaced by his compatriot Ángel Correa in the 65th minute.
Álvarez was Atleti’s hero on Thursday, after scoring the goals with which they beat UE Vic (sixth division) 2-0 in the first round of the Copa del Rey.
In the first minutes of the match, Cillessen left the field on a stretcher and with a special neck brace, after in a game action he accidentally received a kick from Molina.
Leader Barcelona later receives a visit from Espanyol in search of consolidating itself at the top.
