SYRIZA Congress: The 4 presidential candidates denounced an attempt to overthrow SYRIZA –

An attempt to mutate, liquidate and subvert SYRIZA so that it loses its position as the official opposition in favor of a broader plan of entanglement, complained the four presidential candidates who took the floor again today in the wake of the developments with the speech of Stefanos Kasselakis and the announcement of a new party on his behalf.

The candidates, as well as the president of KO, asked the MPs who declared or are thinking of becoming independent, not to do so and that otherwise it will be a case of apostasy and they will be judged by History.

Rep. Gletsos: “Stefanos Kasselakis reached the last step of humiliation today”

Apostolos Gletsos sent a message “to continue strong, united, serious”, commenting that Stefanos Kasselakis reached the “last step of humiliation” today. As he said, he “went so far as to send people who have “definitely nothing to do with the left and certainly nothing to do with the politics you meet them at night” to “break up” the conference. “The stigma will remain with us, we took him and made him our leader,” he noted, stressing that “we will quickly try to throw it off us.” “He needs a lot of work from tomorrow to win back the people who have left us not only because of Kasselakis”, he said and called on the people to vote for the election of the SYRIZA-PS president, who will be “first among equal”. “SYRIZA was not a parenthesis, it was not a flare, it proved it with the government of Tsipras and his companions for 4.5 years”, he said, declaring that “we will defeat them”, while he accused PASOK that what he decided is “to continue to be a close friend of Maximos and Mitsotakis”.

P. Polakis: “The attempt to transform SYRIZA failed. I call on the MPs who have declared or are thinking of leaving, to think again”

“Now things are clear. The attempt to transform SYRIZA failed. Yesterday we experienced the show of the deposition of the supposed signatures that received the scathing and effective response from the president of the conference, Yiannis Mantzouranis, that majorities are determined by votes and not by responsible statements. If they had the majority the first thing they would do would be to censure the presidency but they didn’t because they would lose. As soon as they saw that they were not accepted, they left and announced a party”, said Pavlos Polakis. He added that “the plan for a 5% SYRIZA dealing with part of the rights has failed miserably”. The candidate president called on “all the fellow MPs and those who have declared that they are leaving, to think again, and those who are thinking about it, not to do it. Because in a short time the person who proposes it to them may not even be in Greece”. He also called on them “to think clearly that our society needs a strong official opposition and a new ruling force tomorrow.” “In this democratic invitation everyone has a place,” he said. Mr. Polakis said that a popularly understandable, socially necessary program must be drafted, in conflict with the intertwining and for the benefit of wage labor, the new generation and small and medium entrepreneurship and the peasantry, a program of deep changes that will redistribute wealth and reform democratically the state and the judiciary and will bring strategic sectors of the economy back under public control.

S. Famellos: “The entanglement has aimed at SYRIZA losing the official opposition”

“We are all here”, explained Sokratis Famouslos, stressing that today the “necessity of SYRIZA-PS” was confirmed, that it is the “only way to achieve the great political change”. He also underlined that it was confirmed that what was circulating in the last few days was “fake news” as “65% of the delegates voted positively for the four nominations”, against those who tried to “boycott” the conference. “Yesterday and today we returned to politics”, as there was a “political discussion”, he said, while also referring to “struggles that were expressed” but also to “mistakes that were clarified”. “We agreed to become a party again”, he noted, underlining that “we will not wait for the election of the president but from Monday we will be in the local communities”. “Let’s call all comrades SYRIZA of ’15, of ’19, of ’23 to rebuild the new SYRIZA, not only to defend our home,” he said, speaking of a “party open to all democratic citizens.” Continuing, he emphasized that the “plan to eliminate SYRIZA” was confirmed and answered those who say that “SYRIZA is finished” that “it is here rooted in society, in the values of the Left, in the history of the Left”. He referred to “three attempts to block the party’s democratic processes”, accusing the Kasselakis side of subsequently being “victimized” in a “trumpish” way. “This plan was prepared outside of SYRIZA and is supported by the entanglement,” he said, while announcing to the MPs who left that they will not go to the “Kasselakis party but will provide services to Androulakis and the entanglement”. “The entanglement has aimed at SYRIZA losing the official opposition”.

N. Farandouris: “History has never been lenient with those who have staged coups”

“The smile today is brighter than any other day. History has never been kind to those who strike coups. Because it seems that a plan to overturn the parliamentary balance is emerging in the last few hours. Let’s inform our parliamentary friends that history will not be kind to them. Their roof is SYRIZA, today official opposition, pillar of the progressive faction, tomorrow government of the country”, said Nikolas Farandouris. He stated that “the preparatory actions for what seem to be developing rapidly in the last hours pre-existed and are proof of the plan…”. “There is no excuse for those who left. It doesn’t concern us, we move forward together. Our ideological reservoir allows us to straighten today our opposition stature and tomorrow our government program. Our governing perspective must be our common concern and struggle,” he continued.

After completing their positions, the four presidential candidates took the stage together to greet the conference and show the “strong unity of the SYRIZA world”.

The floor was then taken by Olga Gerovasili, stating that “whoever is capable of correcting a mistake, is capable of moving forward and strongly”.

For his part, the president of the KO, Nikos Pappas, said that “we are living moments that will be etched in our memory for a long time and we also have very serious conclusions as we move towards the new games: These few 24 hours proved that there was a plan to break up the procedures and the cohesion of SYRIZA, which began with the resignations, the non-participation in the organs until yesterday’s methodical attempt to prevent SYRIZA people from entering the conference hall”. He commented that “whoever has the majority does not do theatrics but seeks calmness and voting and the result of yesterday’s vote came to give a resounding message not only to those who tried to break up the process but also to the Panhellenic people who have been falsely informed in recent days and unilaterally for what is happening in our party”. He also said that “the most important of the victories we have achieved is the victory against the organized, systematic, furious attempt of Kyriakos Mitsotakis to consolidate a historical revisionism, to throw the veil of oblivion over our people, to make the people forget which government led the country from the memoranda. A tombstone was included in this plan. And it will also be included as a gravestone in the plan of historical washing of the Far Right”.

Mr. Pappas said that KO will continue the work he has started and emphasized that “those who take the decision to deprive SYRIZA of the role of official opposition will always carry a historical mark. He invited “those who think about it or are angry or have skepticism in relation to democratic processes to think again and not bet on ventures that are fatal”. “SYRIZA was, is and will be the leading force of the Left and the progressive space,” he added.
