“When Putin sent troops in February 2022, the next day we had lunch together, and he (Alex. – Ed.) told me: “Dad, if I were Ukrainian, I would go to serve today.” And very soon after that he came to my mother and me and said: “I want to join the army. I want to be a reservist,” says Gili.
Alex, who is now an infantryman in the Army Reserve, is driven by a desire to defend his country, he said.
“It’s a bit old-fashioned, but he’ll be talking about king and country. It’s an acknowledgment that there’s something fundamentally important about our country and what we stand for that he wants to help protect.”
Gili said that since his son joined the military, he has a better understanding of families with service members who may die while serving in conflict zones.
Let us recall that John Gealey visited Ukraine in May – even before Labor won the elections in Britain, and also less than two days after his appointment in July.
Recently the media wrote that, according to Kyiv, Relations with Great Britain have deteriorated after the Labor Party led by Keir Starmer came to power.
