Lebanese authorities said on Saturday that Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon on Friday killed at least 40 people, including children, after violent Israeli bombing targeting the southern suburbs of the capital, Beirut, overnight.

The Israeli army said it bombed Hezbollah infrastructure sites in Tire and Baalbek, including fighters, “operational apartments” and military bases.

According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, Israeli attacks killed at least 3,136 people and injured 13,979 in Lebanon over the past year. The number includes 619 women and 194 children.

Israel and the Lebanese group Hezbollah have been engaged in hostilities since October 2023, but the fighting has escalated significantly since the end of September this year. Israel is strengthening its air and field campaign, while the group is increasing its daily attacks with missiles and drones against Israel.
