As if the Dallas Cowboys’ sporting situation wasn’t worrying enough, quarterback Dak Prescott’s injury is now apparently significantly worse than initially expected.

As “ESPN” reports, the 31-year-old is planning an operation on his partially torn thigh muscles, subject to the opinion of another specialist. If the procedure were to be carried out, it would mean the end of the season.

Prescott is flying to New York at the beginning of next week to be examined again. But the Cowboys doctors and trainers apparently think the surgery is inevitable, which would put him out of action for four months. If the relevant specialist agrees with this assessment, the operation should take place next Wednesday, it is said.

According to the report, the Cowboys apparently believe it is better to treat the injury now than to let it heal on its own and develop complications later. In an interview with Dallas radio station 105.3 The Fan on Friday, Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said Prescott actually wanted to avoid surgery.

Prescott was still confident after the Falcons game

In the game against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 9, the playmaker suffered the aforementioned thigh injury and is also suffering from a hand injury. By then, the playmaker had completed 18 of his 24 pass attempts for 133 yards and a touchdown. Backup Cooper Rush was then brought into play for the veteran.

After the game, Prescott himself was still confident that he would be back on the field in the upcoming NFL week.

“I felt something,” Prescott said after the game (via The Athletic). “I felt something I’ve never felt before,” Prescott added to ESPN, but announced: “It’s going to take a lot for me to not be out there.”

But Prescott wasn’t the only star player injured for the Cowboys. Wide receiver CeeDee Lamb was also sidelined with a shoulder injury and will undergo an MRI scan on Monday.

The Cowboys are in a difficult sporting situation, lost the game against the Atlanta Falcons 21:27 and have a disappointing 3:5 record.
