Why is Jetour different from other Chinese car brands in Indonesia?

Fuzhou, CNN Indonesia

Jetour has its own way, which makes it different and unique from other Chinese brands in Indonesia. This brand, which is part of Chery Automobile, only offers SUVs and does not have an electric car of its own.

Most other Chinese brands in the country, for example Wuling, Chery, BYD, GWM, Neta, Aion and others at least have or have promised to sell electric cars. All these brands also offer a variety of models, from city cars, hatchbacks to SUVs.

At the same time, Jetour sees it from a different perspective, according to the explanation of Kevin Xu Haifeng, Vice President of Jetour International. He said that Jetour, born in 2018, was only targeting SUVs, for long trips and off-road.

Based on his description, the development of the transmission system, including the Jetour model engine, is directed towards off-road. At the same time, for electrification, priority is aimed at it plug-in hybrid (PHEV).

“First I have to prove my point, PHEV is a trend and BEV (battery electric vehicle) are not all. “Second, let’s look at Jetour’s history,” Kevin said.

“Jetour wants to make a global off-road hybrid SUV. That means when we talk about off-road, to use it in this situation, of course it is better if the engine is powerful, this is why we usually (launching) ICE model first. followed by the PHEV model,” he reiterated. .

Jetour started doing car business in Indonesia last March and so far it has only offered two SUVs, the Dashing and the X70 Plus. However, Kevin said that more Jetour models will be released in Indonesia.

It turned out that the model is the T2, an off-road style SUV as part of the T series Jetour family. Kevin confirmed that the T2 will be released in 2025 domestically and that a PHEV option will be available.

This year, between January and October, Jetour’s total worldwide sales reached 439 thousand units. Apart from Indonesia, Jetour also sells cars in Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, Brunei Darussalam, Singapore and the Middle East.

Kevin revealed that although Jetour is targeting a PHEV, they are currently developing a BEV model, in the form of a small SUV in the B segment.

“Actually, we have a special BEV in development. To be honest, this is a small SUV segment, we have such plans. We hope to launch this product in 2026. The BEV model not only for off-road, but also urban use,” he said.

Jetour is actually selling an electric car in the Philippines called Ice Cream. However, this model was not developed from scratch resell Chery QQ Ice Cream.
