A suicide bomber blew himself up at a railway station in southwestern Pakistan on Saturday, killing at least 24 people, including soldiers and railway workers, and wounding around 50 others.

Details: Some of the victims were in critical condition and several died in hospital, officials said. The attack took place at a railway station in Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province. About 100 passengers were waiting for a train to the garrison town of Rawalpindi.

The train station has a walk-through gate to check for explosives, but there are several other doors that are not subject to such checks. Officials noted that “such suicide attacks are usually very difficult to prevent.”

The separatist group Balochistan Liberation Army claimed responsibility for the attack. They said the suicide bomber targeted military personnel at the station.
