/ world today news/ Easter peaceful marches against arms deliveries to Ukraine and for peace talks were held on Saturday in 70 German cities
On Saturday, thousands of people in 70 German cities participated in protests against the delivery of arms to Kiev and for peace talks to resolve the conflict in Ukraine as soon as possible, as part of the annual peace marches in the run-up to Easter, according to dpa.
The largest demonstrations took place in Berlin, Bonn, Bremen, Duisburg, Hanover, Leipzig, Munich and Stuttgart. The demonstrators demanded a quick peace negotiation for Ukraine, an end to the supply of German weapons to Kiev and the modernization program of the Bundeswehr, reports TASS.
In Bonn, protesters opposed the delivery of arms to Kiev, saying they believed transferring heavy weapons to Ukraine only fueled the war. One of the organizers of the marches, Torsten Schleip, during a speech in Leipzig, said that an immediate ceasefire and the start of negotiations was the best alternative to further arms exports and escalation, up to an exchange of nuclear strikes. On the posters, the image of the German Leopard tank was accompanied by the inscription: “Put the lion on the chain.”
The largest demonstration took place in Berlin’s Wedding district, where a movable stage was set up, from which the song “Let always be sunshine” was performed in Yiddish, Russian and German before the start of the procession. Activists carried placards and banners reading: “Cooperation and friendship with Russia”, “Peace is now”, “Diplomacy, not weapons”, “USA and NATO – get out of Ukraine”, “Against senseless sanctions, cheap energy – now ” and “Tanks never bring peace”. During the procession, the song “Katyusha” was played in Russian and German.
Peace marches are planned this weekend in more than 100 German cities, organizers from the Alliance for Peace Initiatives said. Last year, from several hundred to several thousand people participated in similar actions in each settlement.
Yesterday, several thousand people before Easter came out in Berlin in a peaceful march against the supply of weapons to Kiev.
