Berlin – Berlin really deserves this anniversary party. 35 years after the fall of the Wall on November 9, 1989, the center of the capital becomes a stage for freedom.
Over four kilometers along the former Wall strip (from Invalidenstrasse via Checkpoint Charlie to Axel-Springer-Strasse) you can see over 5,000 posters.
They were designed by Berliners in the last few weeks and months in memory of the banners of the Peaceful Revolution in 1989. Motto: uphold freedom!
There are eight exhibition complexes along the open-air gallery. Below it in front of the House of Representatives: “China is not far!” from the Axel Springer Freedom Foundation. It documents the connections between the failed democracy movement in China and the civil rights movement in the GDR.
Saturday, from 12 p.m., there will be concerts, talks, performances, readings, guided tours and participation activities for young and old at the exhibition points. All details about the program can be found here Link.
700 musicians on five stages
Highlight at 8 p.m.: Berlin’s biggest band plays the soundtrack of freedom on five stages. 700 musicians perform eight legendary anthems at the same time, including “Heroes” by David Bowie and “Freiheit” by Marius Müller-Westernhagen.
