GELNHAUSEN – Renate first saw her future husband in 1957 in front of the “Casino” cinema in Gelnhausen while she was waiting for the film to start. A western, as she reveals with a laugh. She was 16 and he was 18 at the time. A year later, the two set off on a trip to Venice – on a motorcycle. It was the beginning of a loving partnership that continues to this day.
Renate (83) and Karl-Heinz Bauchmüller (85) from Gelnhausen-Roth have been a couple for more than 65 years. On Thursday (November 7th) the two celebrated the rare iron wedding anniversary with family and friends. District Administrator Thorsten Stolz and Gerlinde Scheuermann, senior representative for the city of Gelnhausen, also congratulated the happy couple. “It’s nice to see that there are people like the Bauchmüller couple who found each other so many decades ago and have been a close-knit team ever since. The two stick together and have gone through all the ups and downs of life together. “That has become rare these days,” stated the district administrator and wished the two of them many more years together, but above all good health.
Renate and Karl-Heinz married two years after they met in front of the cinema. That was in 1959. The Bauchmüller couple have been living in their own home in Gelnhausen-Roth since 1966, which is only 200 meters from Renate’s parents’ house, where the young couple lived in the early years of their marriage. The two had two children: son Ralf and daughter Alexandra. They have also founded families and three grandchildren are also part of the family: Fabienne (20), Jacob (18) and Philip (14). Karl-Heinz Bauchmüller initially completed an apprenticeship as a turner, but then realized that working with metal was not his thing and switched to a shipping company, where he worked as a long-distance driver throughout his working life.
After completing her training as a saleswoman, Renate later worked at the counter at Deutsche Post. The motorcycle trip to Venice to camp was the start of numerous other trips the couple has taken. First by motorcycle, later by caravan. They explored Italy, Spain and South Tyrol, but also many other countries. Karl-Heinz was a mountaineer in his earlier years. The couple lovingly prepared the house together. Renate still enjoys working in the garden and is supported by her son Ralf. (red)
