Lamongan Health Office asks the public to be vigilant about cases of dengue fever and leptospirosis – ANTARA News East Java

Lamongan (ANTARA) – The Lamongan District Health Service urges the public to be vigilant about cases of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DBD) and Leptospirosis, especially when they move from the dry season to the rainy season as is it right now.

Head of the Disease Control Prevention (P2P) Department of the Lamongan Health Service, dr. Mafidhatul Laely said that 553 cases of dengue fever were recorded until October 2024.

“The highest cases of dengue fever are in two sub-districts, namely Karangbinangun and Mantup, with 43 cases each. All patients were treated at RSM, RSUD and RSI,” he said when diagnosed there in Lamongan, East Java, Saturday.

With the high number of dengue fever cases, he appealed to the public to always adopt a clean lifestyle with the principles of 3 M’s, namely draining reservoirs, closing water storage containers strictly, and recycling used goods that could be breeding grounds for. mosquitoes.

Fidha said that apart from dengue fever, leptospirosis is another disease that needs to be watched when the rainy season changes.

The disease is caused by Leptospira bacteria and is spread through the urine or blood of infected animals.

Some animals that are classified as intermediaries for the spread of leptospirosis are mice, cows, dogs and pigs.

“The symptoms of leptospirosis are similar to those of flu, but they are more severe and include swelling in the feet and hands, and yellow skin. If they are not treated properly, leptospirosis can damage internal organs, even threaten life,” he explained.

However, so far the local Health Department has not found any case of leptospirosis in Lamongan Regency.

Despite this, the local Health Department remains vigilant and has prepared precautionary measures, including the provision of a Rapid Diagnostic Test (RDT) to speed up the diagnosis process.

“We will also carry out epidemiological studies if there are case reports, so that the risk of transmission can be identified and controlled immediately,” said Dr. Fidha.
