On November 12, 2024 /Tuesday/ at 12:30 p.m., the sweet side of Hungarian cuisine will be presented in the Ethnographic Museum /at Slavyanska Street 69/ in Burgas. In the Ethnic Cuisine of RIM – Burgas, students from the Professional High School of Tourism “Prof. Dr. Asen Zlatarov” will prepare one of the most popular festive sweet specialties according to an authentic recipe – Hungarian strudel, known as “retesh”. There are many options for making strudel: with cottage cheese, sour cherries, cherries, apples, poppy seeds, walnuts, plums, peaches… Ours will be with pumpkin and ground poppy seeds.
The culinary demonstration will be officially opened by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Hungary to Bulgaria, H.E. Dr. Miklos Boros and from the director of the Liszt Institute – the Hungarian Cultural Institute in Sofia, Mrs. Sandra Mishkedi. Hungary is one of the countries that accepted to be part of the initiative “The language of the kitchen: diplomacy, history, culture” of RIM – Burgas and the State Cultural Institute of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria. The project is implemented with the support of the Municipality of Burgas and the Regional Administration.
The event accompanied the opening of an intriguing exhibition entitled “Sweet Ambassadors – Gastrodiplomacy”, provided by the Embassy of Hungary in the Republic of Bulgaria. She tells in detail about incredibly delicious pastries typical of Hungarian cuisine and about the stories of their creation – József Dobosz’s miracle cake, Henrik Kugler’s Budapest minion, Yanci Rigo cake, Indianera, Gundel pancake, Rákotsi cheesecake , Hungarian Rhapsody candies.
The exhibition includes original objects – dining sets made of finely painted Herend porcelain, famous throughout the world, recognized by dynasties and aristocratic families. The special knowledge of its making, including a secret recipe for the paint, is passed down from generation to generation and the vessels are of excellent quality. The handmade and painted works have over 4000 motifs. Each product passes through the hands of 75 people.
The exposition will visit the Ethnographic Museum until January 10, 2025.
