Xi Jinping to attend APEC meeting and G20 summit, pay visits to Peru, Brazil – Xinhua

BEIJING, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) — Chinese President Xi Jinping will attend the 31st Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Lima and pay a state visit to Peru from November 13 to 17, at the invitation of the President of the Republic of Peru, Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra, the spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Friday, Hua Chunying.

Xi will attend the 19th G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro and pay a state visit to Brazil from November 17 to 21 at the invitation of President of the Federative Republic of Brazil Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, said Ms. Hua.

The Chinese president’s participation in this year’s APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting fully demonstrates the great importance China attaches to Asia-Pacific economic cooperation, confirmed Mao Ning, another Foreign Ministry spokesperson. , during a regular press briefing.

“Currently, global economic growth lacks momentum and economic cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region faces new challenges,” Mao said, adding that it is hoped that the region will continue to play its role as a driving force for global economic growth.

Xi will deliver a speech at the meeting, in which he will outline China’s measures to deepen reform and opening-up, as well as its policies and proposals for advancing Asia-Pacific cooperation, according to Mao.

The Chinese president’s participation in the G20 summit demonstrates China’s firm support for multilateralism and the great importance it attaches to cooperation within the G20, Mao said, adding that Xi will deliver a speech at the meeting and hold in-depth exchanges of views with leaders of other countries.

It is widely expected that the G20 will play its role as the premier forum for international economic cooperation, provide impetus to global economic growth, and chart the course for improving global economic governance, according to Mao.

Regarding Xi’s upcoming visit to Peru, Mao said that since the establishment of diplomatic relations 53 years ago, China and Peru have strengthened mutual political trust and achieved fruitful results in the framework of “Belt and Road” cooperation.

During his visit, Xi will hold talks with his Peruvian counterpart to exchange in-depth views on bilateral relations and cooperation in key areas.

It is estimated that President Xi’s visit will further consolidate political mutual trust between China and Peru, deepen practical cooperation in various fields, and promote more positive results in the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership, Mao noted.

During his upcoming visit to Brazil, Xi will hold talks with the Brazilian president to deepen their exchanges on bilateral relations as well as international and regional issues of common concern, Mao said.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Brazil. Over the past 50 years, bilateral relations have maintained healthy and steady development with practical and fruitful cooperation in various fields, Mao added.

Xi’s visit to Brazil will strengthen political mutual trust, promote the synergy of the two countries’ development strategies, and deepen strategic communication and coordination on global hotspots, Mao said. END
