The owner of X was a close friend of the President of the United States (US) Donald Trump during his campaign.
On Friday (8/11/2024), he reportedly took part in a phone call between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, according to several US media.
“The senseless killings are coming to an end. It’s time for the winners,” Musk posted in X later that day.
He neither confirmed nor denied reports about his role in the phone call.
His post was in response to prolific X reporter Mario Nawfal’s claims about “Trump’s plans for Ukraine.”
According to Nawfal, Trump is “allegedly planning an 800-mile demilitarized zone between Russia and Ukraine, with British and European troops patrolling the area.” Under the proposal, Russia would keep the territory it is acquiring, and Ukraine would agree not to join NATO for 20 years.” He cited Newsweek as his source.
However, Newsweek only made anonymous speculation that was reported earlier this week in the Wall Street Journal (WSJ).
The WSJ is the only newspaper to have accused Musk of having “secret communications” with the Kremlin, which he and Russia have denied as fake news.
The WSJ reported that one of the many ideas floated in Trump’s transition team included Kiev pledging not to join NATO for 20 years as a result of the US continuing to “a ‘attack Ukraine with weapons. ”
