Opponents of the Rhine Tunnel argue that during the ten-year construction period of the Rhine Tunnel, traffic on all other roads would increase because of the gigantic construction site. And they point to Studies (mostly from the USA, which is considered a point of criticism), which prove that new roads will attract more traffic in the medium term and therefore the traffic jam problem will not be finally solved.
The interpretation of the effect of the Rhine Tunnel is hotly debated.
