The British Meteorological Office indicated that the country will witness a noticeable drop in temperatures in the coming days, as the temperature is expected to drop by about 9 degrees Celsius as “cold periods” approach for the first time this month.
According to what the Mirror newspaper reported, the Met Office stated in its monthly report that weather systems coming from the Atlantic Ocean will move eastward across the United Kingdom later in November and December. This move will bring periods of cold weather, heavy rains and storms.
Although temperatures in Britain reached about 18.9 degrees Celsius last Thursday in Kinlochwe, Scottish Highlands, weather forecasts expect it to drop to 9 degrees Celsius next week, which represents a big change compared to the warm weather that prevailed this week.
Some areas, such as Tomstown in County Fermanagh and Bed in Cornwall, recorded warm temperatures of 17.9 and 17.2 degrees Celsius, respectively.
The office added, “Some areas will still witness temperatures within the normal range for this time of year, but the weather will be more unstable compared to the beginning of the month, with an increase in wind movements and weather fluctuations.”
The office said in a statement: “The weather is expected to witness further volatility, with Atlantic weather systems moving across the UK on a regular basis. This will lead to periods of rain and storms followed by dry periods. The heaviest rainfall is likely to be in the northwest of the country.” “While conditions will remain relatively dry in the southeast.”
Regarding snowfall, Met Office spokeswoman Andrea Bishop explained that it is too early to predict widespread snowfall in the coming weeks.
She added: “There are currently no signs of widespread snowfall, because snow is difficult to predict accurately in the long term. Because of the location of the United Kingdom, the source of the wind plays an important role in determining the probability of snowfall.”
As temperatures approach falling, meteorologists expect an increase in wind speed, especially on the North Sea coasts. Wind speeds are expected to reach 40mph next Friday in Counties Durham and Northumbria.
