Traffic fees: What changes in deadlines, fines. What would their reduction bring? –

Every year at this time the owners of I.X. car owners are waiting for the commitments of the competent ministers to be implemented from time to time that there will be changes in vehicle traffic fees and finally they are asked each time to pay the same fees as in previous years which in many cases are very high even exceeding the commercial value of the vehicle their.

Once again, therefore, the road taxes posted on Tuesday 5 November by the Independent Public Revenue Authority are the same as last year and any changes to be made will be postponed for next year, provided of course the predictions that the circulation of new of anti-pollution vehicles will not cause significant revenue losses (because they pay significantly lower or even zero fees compared to older technology) and the intersections of AADE for those who drive without paying road tax, insurance premiums and have not passed a KTEO, will pay off by filling the public coffers to compensate for any reductions made by the government.

The only major change one will notice this year is the legislation passed by the finance ministry under which an extension will not be granted again and anyone who pays after the due date, i.e. after December 31, 2024, will be charged a escalating penalty corresponding to the month who will now choose to pay the new road tax on time.

Traffic fees

Thus, for one more year millions of car owners will be asked to pay in many cases high road tax, especially if their vehicles are of old technology and of large displacement (over 1,600 cc), while they remain unchanged for many years despite the occasional announcements for reductions or even for their redefinition.

No substantial changes

No government in recent years has made substantial changes because it simply does not want to risk, as they say competently, the revenues of the state budget. The current one does the same, although according to the information for next year it may consider a 15-20% reduction in the traffic fees of old vehicles and readjust (increases) those imposed on new anti-pollution technology and which, compared to vehicles of the same displacement but old, they are noticeably lower. However, the Ministry of Finance states that “the polluter” must continue to pay much more than the person who has purchased a vehicle with new anti-pollution technology. The point, however, is that in the end the revenues of the state do not show losses.

What would reducing circulation fees do?

However, if the government proceeds to reduce the registration fees for vehicles over 15 years old, it could lead to about 600,000 owners who have filed plates due to high fees to put them back on the road, thus increasing the state’s revenues and generally creating a turnover in the purchase from the operation of the vehicle again (petrol, tolls, service, insurance premiums, etc.).

Traffic fees per month

On the plus side, the monthly traffic fees remain, but even this measure is lacking as someone cannot put their vehicle on the road for a month, then deposit the plates again and then take them back again. He only has to decide once how many months he needs his vehicle and then re-deposit them until the end of the year.

Step-by-step printing

The Economic Postman presents the step-by-step process of printing the road tax so that the owners do not make a mistake and, most importantly, are not asked to pay it twice.

Especially those couples who own a vehicle jointly should know that one of them will have to pay them even if each of them can separately print the relevant notice. If the mistake is made and they are paid by two or three co-owners, then the state will collect them double and triple and will not return them or set them off with other debts.

Also, road tax cannot be included in the fixed arrangement of the 24 installments of the Ministry of Finance but must be paid in one lump sum. However, it is worth emphasizing that if someone does not have the financial ability to pay them all at once as prescribed by law, they can do so via credit card. In other words, he should take the full amount through the card, but the repayment to the bank should be made in up to 12 interest-free installments. Most banks offer this facility. But if one misses a monthly installment in the bank then he will be burdened with exorbitant interest.

The process of printing the fees is simple and can be completed in a few minutes through specific steps as recorded in the images listed. The most important thing, however, is to check that the data entered for both the vehicle and the owner are correct when they are printed.

The Economic Postman presents the steps that one can follow whether one chooses to print them using TAXISnet codes or simply the owner’s VAT number and the vehicle’s registration number.

Thus, if someone wants to use the TAXISnet codes, they should go to the AADE website (www.aade.gr) and directly select the myCar application as shown in the first image.
