[디지털데일리 옥송이 기자] Apple recorded its highest ever sales in the third quarter of this year. Although the iPhone 16 series performed poorly in some major regions, it achieved record-high performance in terms of shipments, sales, and ASP (average selling price) thanks to strong sales of the iPhone Pro series.

According to market research firm Counterpoint Research on the 7th, Apple’s third quarter sales reached $95 billion (approximately 132 trillion won), up 6% from the same period last year. This broke the all-time high as of the third quarter.

Accordingly, Apple’s sales grew for two consecutive quarters, with the hardware and service divisions leading the growth, growing by 4% and 12%, respectively, compared to the same period last year. Hardware sales showed the largest growth in about two years, and service sales reached an all-time high of approximately $25 billion (approximately KRW 35 trillion). As a result, the services division now accounts for a quarter of Apple’s total sales.

Looking at each segment, iPhone sales increased by 6% compared to the same period last year. ASP exceeded $900 for the first time. This is a result of the strong performance of the Pro Series. Although shipments in major markets such as the United States and China decreased compared to the same period last year, markets in Western Europe, Latin America, India, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East and Africa all showed growth.

“There were several positives for Apple this quarter,” said Varun Mishra, senior analyst at Counterpoint Research. “Even though the iPhone 16 series got off to a sluggish start in some key regions, Apple achieved its best-ever third quarter performance in terms of shipments, revenue, and ASP,” he said. “While emerging markets are driving growth in terms of volume, the Pro series is driving ASP.” Contributing to raising “The premium trend in the market continues to drive Apple’s growth,” he analyzed.

iPad sales grew 8% compared to the same period last year, showing growth for two consecutive quarters. The fact that there was no new iPad release last year is one of the factors contributing to the increase in sales this year. Sales of the new iPad Air released this year continue to be strong.

Mac division sales increased 2% compared to the same period last year. Along with the solid performance of MacBook Air, new products equipped with the M4 series chip are also being released, and steady growth is expected in the future. In sectors such as wearables and accessories, sales decreased by 3% compared to the same period last year despite the portfolio reorganization of Apple Watch and AirPods. Compared to the same period last year, sales in the wearables division recorded a decline for five consecutive quarters. This appears to be because the Apple Watch recorded lower-than-expected performance, and the Vision Pro also continued to decline after a surge in demand in the launch quarter.

The service sector is consistently breaking new performance records. Third quarter sales grew 12% compared to the same period last year, reaching an all-time record. From a long-term perspective, growth in emerging markets will lead to increased service sales, and improvements in Apple Intelligence will also contribute to improved profitability in the future.

On the same day, Counterpoint Research also released the global smartphone sales rankings for the third quarter of this year, and the most sold smartphone in that quarter was the iPhone 15. This was followed by the iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 15 Pro in second and third place. The Galaxy S24 ranked 10th. Among the top 10 global smartphones based on sales, 4 iPhone models and 5 Samsung Electronics Galaxy models. China’s Redmi 13C ranked 9th.
