On Friday night, all NHL Swiss players (except Akira Schmid) were in action for their teams. The Colorado Avalanche cut their teeth against the Winnipeg Jets, Chicago couldn’t withstand the pressure from Dallas and the Tampa Bay Lightning lost in a penalty shootout. Jonas Siegenthaler scores his first goal of the season and the desperation continues for the Predators. Pius Suter wins the Swiss duel against Kevin Fiala.
The Winnipeg Jets won for the 14th time in the 13th game – this time against the Colorado Avalanche. Gabriel Vilardi’s goal just under a minute into the first period was enough, as goalie Hellebuyck stopped all 35 of the Avalanche’s shots for their second shutout in a row. Niederreiter shot twice on goal, had a balanced record and 18:45 ice time.
Phillipp Kurashev suffered a defeat with his Chicago Blackhawks. The Dallas Stars dominated the game with 40:26 shooting and 71.4% face-offs won. Although the Hawks seemed physically stronger with 39:15 body checks, in the end it was only enough for a 3:1. During his 11:49 on ice, Kurashev had 2 shots on goal, a 2-minute tripping penalty and had a 41.7% faceoff record.
The Bolts saved a point in the penalty shootout, but ultimately had to admit defeat 2-1 against the Philadelphia Flyers. This means the line is getting closer and closer. It is already the 4th defeat in a row, but at least the first point in November. Now the Lightning have a week off and will play at home against powerhouse Winnipeg next Friday night.
The New Jersey Devils hosted the Montreal Canadiens today and scored 1-0 in the 2nd minute. In the second third it was Jonas Siegenthaler who scored his first goal of the season with a wrist shot to make it 3-1. The Devils managed to keep the two points at home and defeated the Canadiens 5-3. Nico Hischier had 20:56 and a balanced record, Timo Meier 16:54 and a +1 record. Siegenthaler had 20:57 ice time, 3 shots on goal, one goal and a +2 record.
With their third defeat in a row, things are starting to get uncomfortable for the Nashville Predators. After just over 5 minutes in the starting third it was already 2-0 for the home team. Only after the 4-0 in the middle third did a sign of life come when Steven Stamkos scored on a pass from Josi in the power play to make it 4-1. In the end, Nashville lost 6-2 and Josi finished the game with a -2 record, 21:29 of ice time, one shot on goal and a minor penalty for tripping. With a meager 9 points from 14 games, they head back home to host the Utah Hockey Club on Saturday evening.
The Vancouver Canucks were able to celebrate their third win in a row. In the Swiss duel between Pius Suter and Kevin Fiala, the Canucks kept the better end for themselves and won 4-2. Suter had a +1 record with 19:46 and one shot on goal. Fiala was in action for 21:30, 2 shots on goal and a -1 record.
