The Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic announced this Tuesday his withdrawal due to injury from the ATP Finals, which start on Sunday and will end the season.
The record 24-time Grand Slam champion, 37, also recently did not participate in the Paris Masters, which world number two Alexander Zverev won on Sunday.
Djokovic, who won his first Olympic gold medal at the Paris Games in August, won the ATP Finals title last year by defeating two-time Grand Slam winner Jannik Sinner in the final.
“I really wanted to be there, but due to an ongoing injury I won’t be playing next week,” Djokovic posted in a story on the social network Instagram.
“My apologies to those who were planning to see me. Wishing all the players a great tournament. See you soon!” he added.
Sinner, Zverev, the four-time major winner Carlos Alcaraz, the former US Open champion Daniil Medvedev and the American Taylor Fritz have already reserved their places in the tournament that will be held from November 10 to 17 in the Italian city of Turin.
