Commemoration of the dead and honoring the fallen in Hasendorf
Today the annual commemoration of the dead took place in Hasendorf with the honoring of the fallen. Parish moderator Leopold Klenkhart celebrated the Holy Mass, which was attended by numerous guests and the local population. Among those present were the mayor, representatives of the Sitzenberg Comradeship Association and coat of arms bearer Franz Josef Kaiser.
After the mass, the ceremonial honoring of those who died in both world wars took place. In a moving speech, Karl Pell remembered the four citizens of Hasendorf who died in bombing raids in 1945. He also emphasized that numerous conflicts still rage around the world today and claim countless lives.
After the wreath-laying ceremony, a quartet from the Sitzenberg-Reidling Music Association played the song “I had a comrade,” a traditional hymn of remembrance. The memorial service finally ended with the touching song “Nearer, my God, to you” and offered everyone present a worthy moment of pause and remembrance of the victims of past and present wars.
