How can you tell the difference ?

The Nutrition Specialist supports the development and preparation of the nutrition program and is responsible for managing, implementing, monitoring, evaluating and reporting program progress of a sector of the nutrition program at the within the country programme. The Nutrition Specialist provides technical advice and management support throughout programming processes to facilitate administration and achievement of concrete and sustainable results in maternal, child and child nutrition programs/projects. This is achieved in accordance with UNICEF’s plans, allocation, results-based management (RBM) approaches and methodologies, as well as UNICEF’s strategic plans, performance standards and accountability framework. Overall, the Nutrition Specialist will strategically engage in nutrition policy dialogue and advocacy with the State Government and key stakeholders to ensure effective adaptation of nutrition and security policies food, and will ensure that the core commitments for children in humanitarian action – the CCCs – on nutrition are effectively implemented and promptly reported.

To qualify as an advocate for every child, you will…

Minimum requirements:

  • Education:
    • An advanced university degree in one of the following fields is required: nutrition, public health, nutritional epidemiology, global/international health and nutrition, health/nutrition research, policy and/or management, health sciences or other related scientific field to health.
  • Professional experience:
    • A minimum of five years of professional experience in a developing country in one or more of the following areas is required: nutrition, public health, nutrition planning and management, or maternal, child and child health care/nutrition.
    • Experience in the development and management of health/nutrition programs/projects within an agency or organization of the United Nations system is an asset, including in an emergency context.
  • Language requirements :
    • Fluency in English is essential. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, Spanish, French or Russian) or a local language is an asset.

Desirable:

  • Experience working in a developing country and/or knowledge of emergency situations.
