Barranquilla, Atlántico, November 5. The Government of Atlántico, within the framework of its policy of guaranteeing quality university education to Atlantic youth so that they can realize their personal goals, took another great step by signing a memorandum of understanding with three higher normal schools of the department so that future teachers move directly into the professional cycle.
Specifically, it is about offering the opportunity to graduate normalistas to continue their studies in university education at the IUB or Uniatlántico and thus strengthen their pedagogical skills; Likewise, encourage and motivate students’ performance in the Saber 11th tests aimed at improving current indicators, as proposed in the Departmental Development Plan 2024 – 2027, Atlantic for the world.
Among the commitments, it stands out that Universidad del Atlántico, each semester, will offer a certain number of places for senior normalistas in each of the ten bachelor’s degrees of the academic offer.
Likewise, the faculties of Educational Sciences and Fine Arts will be responsible for carrying out vocational tests, interviews and other activities necessary for the selection of applicants for the special quota.
Governor Eduardo Verano participated in the signing of the document, during the ceremony held today, November 5, on the 12th floor of the Government; the advisor for Higher Education, Julio Mejía; the rector of the University Institution of Barranquilla, IUB, Arcesio Castro; sister Gloria Marín, rector of the Escuela Normal Superior Nuestra Señora de Fátima de Sabanagrande; Liliana Patricia Devis Algarín, rector of the Santa Ana de Baranoa Higher Normal School; and Ana Lucía Tatis Mosquera, rector of the Escuela Normal Superior de Manatí. The rector of the Universidad del Atlántico, Danilo Hernández, was present virtually.
Applicants to the programs of the Faculty of Education Sciences: Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education, Recreation and Sports, and Bachelor’s Degree in Music from the Faculty of Fine Arts, must complete the corresponding Physical and/or Musical aptitude tests. The process must have the endorsement of the Faculty Council.
For its part, the IUB will ensure that the graduated superior normalistas continue their professional training in the Bachelor’s Degree in Primary Basic Education program and will be recognized for the study plan developed in the superior normal schools through the homologation of the competencies developed, allowing entry. in the sixth semester of the aforementioned program. It also opens up the possibility of being taken into account for job opportunities.
“Through the normals we are joining efforts in physical, human and technological resources, which impact the quality of the academic training of our future teachers as autonomous, creative, entrepreneurial, ethical, responsible individuals, with a sustainable vision, who respond to the needs of the environment in a globalized context. We seek to improve the qualifications of the territorial entity’s teachers,” said Governor Eduardo Verano, after signing the respective manifestos of understanding.
He added that his government has everything structured so that young people are for the world through quality education. “We have to prepare them, we have to train them and what has caught our attention the most, what has most excited us, what has motivated us the most, is that we see that more and more young people attend all these meetings with an attitude of be the center of the education processes of our department. Arcesio Castro, rector of the IUB, explained that the manifestos have important ties because, from this moment on, through a homologation process, the manifesto will allow access to all students of the department’s higher normal schools, in three years. More teachers can graduate as graduates and continue studying and contributing to the future development of the region.
The mayor of Baranoa, Edinson Palma, indicated that it was something that the young normalistas of the municipality were always waiting for.
“Today with the signing of three manifestos of understanding between the Government of Atlántico and the University Institution of Barranquilla, in which the Escuela Normal Superior Santa Ana de Baranoa was included, we close a gap at the level of education because we are going to guarantee that many of Our young people have access to free, quality education that will allow them to make their dreams come true. “So let’s study!” said the president.
Liliana Patricia Devis Algarín, rector of the Escuela Normal Superior Santa Ana de Baranoa, described the event as historic, taking into account that since 2017 the three normal schools had been making representations to different universities without results.
“We are in a historic moment in the Department of Atlántico, because the signing of the agreement between the University of Atlántico and the University Institution of Barranquilla is a very important event, because it is allowing young people to have a great opportunity to become professional. The dreams of young people that seemed distant, I believe that today are a reality and this must be applauded,” noted Devis Algarín.
Tatiana Hernández, a student at the Escuela Normal Superior de Manatí, said that it is impressive and motivating news. “The truth is, because this opens doors for us that we didn’t think we could reach. We thank all the people who were part of this to make our dreams come true. Thank you very much,” he noted.
It is noteworthy that thanks to a first agreement signed between the Government of Atlántico and the IUB, it already benefits 2,500 students of the department who began free training since last October 28 at the technical and technological level, as the first part of the preparatory cycle, preliminary step towards a university professional career. The four-year goal of Eduardo Verano’s departmental administration is to benefit 10,500 young people.
The training is being carried out at the Santa Ana Higher Normal School, in Baranoa; the Campo de la Cruz Educational Institution, in Campo de la Cruz; the Juan V. Padilla Technical Educational Institution, of Juan de Acosta; the San Nicolás de Tolentino Educational Institution, in Puerto Colombia; José David Montezuma Recuero Educational Institution, from Repelón; and the Commercial Technical Educational Institution, of Santo Tomás.
