Krafton PUBG Studio, which captivated gamers around the world with ‘Battleground’ (PUBG), presented a trailer video for ‘Project Ark’, a new intellectual property (IP) that will succeed PUBG.
Krafton announced on the 8th that it had released the ‘Project Ark’ (hereinafter referred to as Ark) play trailer video on its official YouTube channel. The development team explained that the feature of this game is that it implements realistic and fast-paced gunplay action inspired by Battlegrounds.
Ark is a new game in the shooting genre where you choose one of the characters with various weapons and special equipment and engage in a 5-on-5 PVP (player-versus-player battle) shooting battle from a top-down perspective. There are various game modes, but the one the production team chose as the main one is the ‘bombing mission’, where the goal is to plant a bomb. Except for the different viewpoints, the overall gameplay is similar to Nexon’s ‘Sudden Attack’ and Ubisoft’s ‘Rainbow Six: Siege’, which are first-person shooting games (FPS).
A variety of battles unfold with roles divided into various weapons such as assault rifles, shotguns, sniper rifles, and designated marksman rifles (DMRs), and ‘medical kits’ and ‘blue zone grenades’ borrowed from the PUBG IP appear as auxiliary items, making it easy for existing PUBG users. They can enjoy the game more familiarly.
Project Ark has a structure in which teamwork is important, with each character exercising their unique talents and performing their respective roles, so it has ample potential to develop into an E-sport. Due to the nature of the top-down view, it is easy to watch, making it fun to watch, and the real-time situation between offense and defense is intuitively revealed, making it easy to understand the game development.
However, although it is a shooting game, unlike first-person or third-person shooting games where you follow the character’s view, it is a top view from above, so it is unfortunate that it may act as a barrier to entry for general users. Also, the somewhat complicated operation method can be an obstacle to becoming familiar with the game. There is also a ‘team kill’ element, so there is a possibility that various side effects may occur immediately after the live service.
Project Arc PD Yang Seung-myeong said, “We will continue to prepare control measures for intentional trolling by operating a live service after the game is released.”
Project Ark is scheduled to be unveiled for the first time at Korea’s largest game exhibition ‘G-Star 2024’ held at BEXCO in Busan from the 14th to the 17th, and is scheduled to be released in early access form on the game streaming platform ‘Steam’ in the first half of next year.
