World leaders spoke out in the early hours of this Wednesday to congratulate the standard bearer of the Republican Party, Donald Trump, after the result of the United States presidential elections.
Among the first to react are leaders from Latin America, Europe and the Middle East, who publicly expressed their support and expectations for Trump’s new mandate.
Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele was one of the first to congratulate him
“Congratulations to the President-elect of the United States of America, Donald Trump,” he wrote in a short message on his X account, adding: “May God bless and guide you.”
Bukele has repeatedly praised Trump’s foreign policy toward Latin America, especially on issues of security and economic cooperation.
From Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, who maintained a close relationship with Trump during his own term, expressed his satisfaction with the result.
“May Trump’s victory serve as an inspiration for Brazil to follow the same path. May our compatriots see in this example the necessary inspiration to never bow down and rise with honor, following in the footsteps of those who refused to be defeated by adversity,” he wrote in a message on X.
In Europe, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán also congratulated Trump, making clear his interest in coordinating agendas on migration issues and the defense of conservative values.
“We congratulate Mr. President Trump, we have big plans,” Orbán said on his Facebook account.
Shortly after, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed his support for Trump and his wife Melania.
“Dear Donald and Melania Trump, congratulations on the biggest comeback in history. His historic return to the White House offers a new beginning for America and a powerful reaffirmation of the great alliance between Israel and America. “It is a huge victory!” said the Israeli premier.
French President Emmanuel Macron also expressed his willingness to collaborate again with the American leader, sending a message in which he stated:
“Congratulations, President Donald Trump. Ready to work together as we knew how to do for four years, with your convictions and mine. With respect and ambition. For more peace and prosperity,” highlighted the French president.
From Ukraine, President Volodimir Zelensky congratulated Trump and expressed his enthusiasm for collaborating to strengthen his country’s security.
“Congratulations to Donald Trump on his impressive election victory!” Zelensky wrote on X.
He recalled his meeting last September with Trump, where they discussed “the Victory Plan and ways to end Russian aggression against Ukraine.”
Zelensky highlighted his appreciation for Trump’s “peace through strength” approach to global affairs, stating that this principle “can bring just peace in Ukraine closer.” He also expressed confidence in continuing to have bipartisan American support for his country.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni sent her congratulations, underlining the deep alliance between both countries.
“On behalf of myself and the Italian government, the most sincere congratulations to the president-elect of the United States, Donald Trump,” Meloni wrote on the X social network.
“Italy and the United States are sister nations, united by an unbreakable alliance, common values and historic friendship. It is a strategic link that, I am sure, we will now strengthen even more. Good job, president,” he added.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stressed that Trump’s return to the White House will help the Alliance stay strong.
“His leadership will once again be a key element in keeping our Alliance strong. “I look forward to working with him to advance peace,” Rutte said in a statement.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer called Trump’s victory a “historic victory” and stressed that the special relationship between the United Kingdom and the United States “will continue to prosper.”
“As the closest of allies, we stand shoulder to shoulder in defense of our shared values of freedom, democracy and enterprise,” Starmer said.
“From growth and security to innovation and technology, I know that the special relationship between the United Kingdom and the United States will continue to thrive on both sides of the Atlantic for years to come,” he added.
Meanwhile, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also congratulated Trump in a message on X.
“My heartfelt congratulations, friend Donald Trump, on your historic election victory,” Modi wrote. “As you build on the successes of your previous term, I look forward to renewing our collaboration.”
He added that both countries will work “for the well-being of our people and to promote global peace, stability and prosperity.”
Meanwhile, the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, joined the long list of reactions with a message in which she highlighted the alliance between the United States and the bloc.
“I warmly congratulate Donald J. Trump. The EU and the US are more than just allies. We are united by a true partnership between our people, uniting 800 million citizens. Let us therefore work together on a solid transatlantic agenda that continues to deliver results for them,” Von der Leyen wrote on the X social network.
The Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, affirmed his intention to work in a solid bilateral and transatlantic alliance.
“Congratulations Donald Trump on your victory and your election as the 47th president of the United States. We will work on our strategic bilateral relations and on a solid transatlantic alliance,” Sánchez published in X.
On the other hand, China’s regime adopted a cautious stance.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning did not mention Trump directly, but reaffirmed Beijing’s interest in maintaining “peaceful coexistence” with the United States.
“We will continue to focus and manage China-US relations based on the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation,” Ning said.
